Have you performed your “mind-body” scan today?
If you are aware of what a “mind-body” scan is, then chances are you are performing them regularly, especially now! If not, then right about now you are wondering what the heck I am talking about, “mind-body” scan? I am so glad you asked!
A “mind-body” scan is a 5-minute time out, if you will, to check in on one’s self. It is an opportunity to ask yourself three simple questions
What am I feeling, physically?
What am I feeling, emotionally?
What am I thinking?
Checking in on what is happening physically, emotionally, and mentally is the first step in self-awareness. We all have automatic habits that we are unaware of that may be hindering us from becoming the best version of ourselves or that we fall back on during times of stress. Mindless eating at 3 PM, needing a snack after dinner or hitting the snooze button (to name a few).
Taking a 5-minute time out to ask yourself a few questions will help you to identify patterns and open your eyes to the opportunity to modify some behaviors.
What can you expect as the result of consistent mind-body scans?
Some began to notice deeper issues such as stress or stress triggers. If you have experienced trauma in the past, this practice may take some time to become effective, or this may bring to the present feelings from the past. Welcome every feeling while taking note of what you observe, patterns will become apparent.
With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, the theme they have adopted is “You are not alone”. We are all on this journey together, and we are here to help!
Stress is real, and every feeling that you are experiencing is real. No two people are the same, and there is not a particular way you should handle your emotions.
You are not alone!
We would love for you to become a part of our community! Join us each morning at 6:30 AM to Awake and Connect. There we begin with 15 minutes of meditation and finish with movement. This is a time to reflect, flow through your mind-body scan, develop affirmations, and visualize your best day!
