Hey, fam!

How is everyone holding out? COVID-19 is really devastating America as we speak, and we will likely have to continue to hunker down for the next month or so. With most of us thrown this curveball, we have two options: to come out of this exactly how we entered or to come out with new tools for the next time we encounter the unknown or the unknowable. Now is not a time for us to panic, but to instead pursue peace and growth.

This season spent at home is the perfect opportunity to “get back to the basics” and cement them into your family’s wellness foundation. Now is the time to learn/rediscover cooking, baking, the value of exercise, time with loved ones, evaluating our stress levels and mental health, and making sure to REST.

PHYSICAL

Let’s chat about the physical side of things. First, continuing a strength training program should be a non-negotiable at this time. If a program is not already in place, we should start. Directly from CrossFit.com: CrossFit is “[being] best prepared…for any physical contingency—prepare them [the athletes] not only for the unknown but for the unknowable as well.” How many of us knew we were going to experience a worldwide virus in our lifetimes?! I think it’s safe to say little to none. Keeping up with a consistent exercise regimen, especially one that is “constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement,” has been proven time and again to jumpstart our immune systems and keep them routinely fighting off disease. This is an integral part of our line of defense.

Eating well is another crucial factor in keeping our minds and bodies truly well. It is God’s way of keeping us healthy! Many of the remedies that we need are at our fingertips, and we have strayed so far from just using what is growing in our yards to heal our bodies. God’s design is perfect, and once you begin to discover what He has intended for us to utilize as medicine, you will find SO much more than you ever expected in terms of what it can do.  Think cures for cancer to poison ivy to Lyme’s disease to VIRUSES. Fortunately for us, we don’t have to look very far to find “medicine”! We are blessed to walk into our local grocery store or farmer’s market. Food is medicine, and we can use it every day for our continued wellbeing and educate those around us! We aren’t saying enjoying a treat is terrible (especially if you are using cleaner ingredients, using baking as a means of homeschooling or connecting with your kids), but now is a fantastic time to make wise choices for our bodies.

MENTAL

We NEED to stay in the Word of God. This is the most powerful thing we can do for our health. We find assurance in the Bible, and this is not just for us but is to operate as a tool to encourage those that need it most right now. It seems so funny how the world continues to take wisdom from the Source of Wisdom, and make it look like a brand new idea. Meditation? Joshua 1:8 NLT tells us: “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” We have a PROMISE in that verse. When we know God’s Word, we obey God’s Word, we love like God, and we live like God; prosperity and success in all we do.

Rest? “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11.28-30 NLT. Jesus says we will find rest in Him. We must rest in Him because that is the way to true rejuvenation for all aspects of who we are. Mind-set?  “For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace.” Romans 8.6 TPT Peace and life sounds pretty beautiful right about now with all the panic and death going on in the media.

We also want to encourage you all to journal. For some, this may be a hard habit to get into, but ask anyone who is consistent in it, and you will find that reaping this reward is not something you want to pass up. This is a discipline, just like eating well and exercising. Schedule in a specific time for it (even if it’s only 5 minutes), and you will set yourself up for success. Journaling helps us to identify and experience our feelings, and to line them up with God’s Word. It is an easy choice to make, NOT to address things that are pressing on our hearts, but when we do, we find relief, freedom, and clarity. We have made the space to tackle our strongholds and to be in the present moment with others. It is a beautiful thing to carry a conversation without thinking about corralling thoughts that have no business bothering/attacking you in the first place. When we journal, we can take our thoughts captive, process them, and establish whether or not they come from God. If not, take that trash out!! It can be as small as a scene from a movie that maybe wasn’t in line with what we stand for. Pray, repent if needed, and command that whatever nastiness it is out of your life in the name of Jesus. We don’t play with the devil.

 

CHALLENGE:

  1. Meditate on scripture. Make the time for the Word. We are not going to give you a specific scripture today, because we just want you to open your Bible (or Bible app!) and see what the Spirit has in store for you.
